The Utah Department of Health's September 2017 Health Status Update features significant public health events that occurred in the state. The Department of Health used All Payer Claims Database (APCD) data to determine the demographic and diagnostic characteristics of patients who became chronic opioid users after beginning opioid user as a naive user. Analysis is used to inform the state's clinical guidelines for prescribing opioids following new CDC recommendations. The health department responded to an E. coli outbreak as well as a measles outbreak in 2017. A monthly health indicators report (through July 2017) is included at the end of the document.
