Treatment of opioid use disorder in pregnancy among individuals with and without co-occurring stimulant use disorder: A retrospective cohort study

This case study uses Utah APCD data to compare treatment patterns among pregnant individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) who also had a co-occurring stimulant use disorder (StUD) versus those with OUD alone, finding that those with both conditions were less likely to receive medication for OUD (buprenorphine or methadone) but more likely to receive psychosocial services and higher-intensity treatment such as residential or intensive outpatient care — suggesting that co-occurring stimulant use may shift treatment away from the most evidence-based intervention for OUD during pregnancy.
