Evaluating the impact of health equity zones to mitigate disparities in cancer screening: study of colorectal cancer screening in rhode island

This case study uses Rhode Island's all-payer claims database (HealthFacts RI) to evaluate whether the state's Health Equity Zones initiative improved colorectal cancer screening rates among vulnerable populations, finding that HEZs appear to narrow screening disparities among Medicaid beneficiaries — suggesting the model may be worth replicating in other Medicaid expansion states.
